Project Description

Most food waste whether it’s generated in households, universities, or businesses is currently sent to landfills and in the United States that’s about a third of available food. Rochester Institute of Technology Sustainability Lab has been working to take their food waste and organic trash and turn it into treasure with the assistance of Ecovim technology.

With a goal of looking at food excess as a resource instead of a nuisance, food and organic waste are processed in an Ecovim unit and converted to a high-quality product that looks similar to compost.  However, this by-product is much more.  It can be used to form fuel,  fertilizer, and filters, in addition to cutting waste management costs.
