Pilot Description
US Marine Corp. Food Waste Pilot was conducted in the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) store at the Marine base. DeCA operates a worldwide chain of commissaries at U.S. military facilities, providing groceries to military personnel, retirees, and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment.
DeCA has implemented solid waste reduction and recycling programs over the past few years resulting in the saving of millions of dollars in its operations. DeCA will evaluate the environmental, social, and economic impacts of utilizing the Ecovim system in its store during the 90-day test period.
Pilot Results
Total Diversion – 4.4 tons (10,000 lbs)
Reduction – 3.7 tons (8,500 lbs) to 1,500 lbs amendment
Reduction Rate – 85%
